The Courtyard Bar in Clonakilty has just unveiled its new garden terrace, which offers a slice of Mediterranean holiday atmosphere to office workers on their lunch break or those looking to unwind after a long day.
The Courtyard Bar’s terrace contains lusciously planted pods that provide privacy to the tables, which also enjoy attentive table service. Attractive paving and stonewalling provides the perfect foil to the functional yet elegant wooden seating and tables. With no passing traffic, this south-facing oasis is the perfect place to meet friends for a drink or a meal at any time of the day or evening. The terrace was designed by David Harte (BA (Hons) Interiors) and constructed by local contractor Rick’s Plant Hire, using locally supplied materials.
Head Chef Ian Steward has launched a new summer menu to complement this al fresco dining experience. Retaining old favourites such as the Daily Traditional Roast, seasonal choices include salads with a twist such as Smoked Salmon and Strawberry Salad and Roasted Mediterranean Salad as well as a surprise daily special.
The Courtyard has always been popular for breakfast and new holiday flavours include Bucks Fizz, Pancakes or Eggs Benedict. “The terrace is a sun trap from very early in the morning and is a fantastic place to start the day,” says Ian.
As a South African, Ian prides himself on his barbeque or ‘Braai’ skills. With a great reputation for party finger food all year round, The Courtyard offers the option of a barbeque on the terrace for all manner of celebrations, from birthdays to wedding after parties.
Having been chosen as a finalist last year in Heineken’s Star Serve competition in not one but two categories, ‘Pub of the Year’ and ‘Best Customer Experience’, The Courtyard continues to serve up exceptional lagers, speciality bottled beers, spirits and cocktails under the experienced eyes of bar managers Mags O’Driscoll and ‘Elvis’ Garry Barrett.
Proprietor Ger Harte has an extensive knowledge of wine and has carefully chosen a collection that can be enjoyed alone or with food; Cape Heights, an unwooded South African Chardonnay is great with barbecued fish or poultry while the Italian Laroma Pinot Grigio is an excellent accompaniment to seafood or salad.
The Courtyard offers the best of both worlds with an interior that is a cool and inviting alternative to the terrace, with oodles of seating and plenty of room for buggies and high chairs, all of which makes it extremely child-friendly.
As Clon’s only sports bar, for the past month The Courtyard has been buzzing with cheers/groans as its patrons follow the highs and lows of the World Cup on two HD screens. Throughout the summer it will be showing all major sporting events and you won’t find a better venue to catch all the action whilst enjoying fantastic food, superior drinks and friendly service.
